History

Unity Church of Christianity of Nacogdoches

Many wonderful members and friends of Unity from the Nacogdoches and Lufkin area have dedicated their time, talents and treasures to build a Unity church here. In early 1987, Ruth and Giles Rusk initiated a Unity group for the study and teaching of practical Christianity. Six people were present at the first meeting.  In 1989 this group incorporated and formed the Unity Church of Christianity of Nacogdoches.

The early church home occupied two spaces on the west side of the Nacogdoches downtown square. One side was the sanctuary and one a bookstore and Sunday School room. Over time, many visitors, some new to Unity teachings and principles, found their introduction to practical Christianity, as well as enjoying conversation in the bookstore.

Unity was founded on prayer. The 24 hour prayer ministry is Silent Unity, located in Unity Village, just outside of Kansas City, Missouri. They also publish the Daily Word and are supported by freewill offerings and serve people of all faiths. For over a century, prayer has been the heart of the Unity ministry.

The local mission statement “Our mission is to love and serve by living the principles of Jesus Christ” was developed by many Unity members in Nacogdoches and Lufkin encouraging the growth of Unity in this area.

Unity prayers are being answered! Unity Church of Christianity of Nacogdoches is looking forward to owning our own church building. Two acres of property on the West Loop 224 and Durst Street were donated for the site of the new building.

Come and grow with us!
